Motivational Speech on Setting Goals (2020)

Lou Holtz once said, if you're bored with life, if you don't get up every morning with a burning desire to do things, you don't have enough goals. Hi there. Experts on the science of success know that the brain is a goal seeking organism, whatever goal you give to your subconscious mind. It will work night and day to achieve it. However, one goal isn't enough. Some goals take longer to achieve than others. And if you spend years working toward only one objective, you're likely to get discouraged when it doesn't happen right away. But when you have a long list of goals that you'd like to achieve. You have more to strive for and more opportunities to check those goals off your list. And the rush you feel every time you check off one of those goals will inspire you to accomplish even more of them. So make a list of one hundred and one goals you'd like to achieve in your life before you die and be as specific as possible. Include details such as when they will happen, where they will happen, how much you'll make, what model you buy, what size it'll be, and so on. And keep your goals somewhere where you can review them often. You might want to put them on a deck of three by five index cards and shuffle through them every morning or on a poster or a piece of paper. You hang on the wall beside your computer or in the bathroom or on the refrigerator. You might want to put them in a book that you read each night before you fall asleep.

By keeping them top of mind, you'd be more likely to make them a reality. And every time you achieve one of your goals, check it off the list and celebrate what you've managed to accomplish in your life. For inspiration, here are some of my personal goals that I committed to achieving when I did my 101 goals list. Traveling to Rome, visiting Paris, Russia, Singapore, visiting great sites like the Eiffel Tower, the Pyramids and the Great Wall of China all across the world, snorkeled and a wide of 10 to the Olympics, it sold 500 million books. I appeared on Oprah have appeared in a movie. I visited and stayed in the rainforest in Ecuador. I've achieved over 80 of my 101 goals and now I'm still adding new ones to the list, like learning to sing and play 10 children's songs on a guitar and learning to perform five magic tricks so I can entertain my three and a half year old grandson. Your goals can be as smaller, as large as you want them to be. Nothing's off limits. What is important is that you commit to creating your one hundred and one goals list and looking them over often. I've had my list since 1989 and as I said, I'm continually checking things off of it. If you have trouble coming up with 101 goals, you can ask your inner guidance through meditation or deep thinking. You know, I came up with the idea and the title for Chicken Soup for the Soul through meditation, and that has changed my life.

Sometimes inspirations occur without expectation or warning. Other times we have to consciously ask for them and then create the quiet space within ourselves to receive them. Inspiration can strike when you're lying in bed. Semi-conscious Dream State, when you're taking a shower, when you're walking along the beach or through the woods. But however and whenever it comes, it should be posted and acted on as soon as possible. I've come to believe that when inspiration strikes, it comes in a certain window of time that's ideally suited for the action to begin at that moment. So when it strikes, take advantage of it. Keeping this in mind, I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete after you're done watching this video. No, a paper from one to one hundred and one it begin creating your own one hundred and one goals list. And to hold yourself accountable. Leave a comment below with your first five goals that you come up with and I'll follow up with you guys and make sure you're staying on track. So thanks for watching. And remember.
